WELLプログラム、草の根メディの発表の紹介を抜粋しました：　二人以上の人間がいれば争いはさけられないもの。メディエーションとは調停、仲裁、和解、とりなしなどという意味で、日本の士業界/法曹界では和解支援とか自主解決援助型調停とか呼ばれています。ADR（裁判所外紛争解決）、誰かの問題に第３者が関わって解決を促す手法の一つで、人間の本来のあり方に触れる哲学でもあります。何か問題が起きた時に、誰か第３者に決めてもらうのではなく、その人が自分の問題として、自分で決められるように支援するもので、Mediatorのスキル（技法）は日常生活や職場で、円滑なコミュニケーションと人間関係を保つのに役立ちます。　日本では、「雨降って地固まる」という諺があるように、争いごとは、その解決方法によっては、人々のより強い意志/意識、より強い絆、地域でのより良い関係を生むための良いきっかけとなります。揉め事が起きた際に当事者の言い分を当事者全員が参加してきちんと述べ合う場を設け、互いが共に気持ち良く暮らす（win-win）ためには、何が問題なのか、どうなれば良いのか、そのために何ができるのか、話し合っていきます。　

３年ほど前にニュージーランドに住んでいた時に、たまたま知識のないまま出席したアジア・太平洋・メディエーション・フォーラムでメディエーション理論に遭遇。雷に打たれたような衝撃を受けました。そこで話されたことが、物心ついたころから頭にあって、なるべくそうありたいと心掛けてきたことだったからです。即座に、自分の天職だと感じ、去年の夏「草の根メディエーションの会」なるものを立ち上げました。   参考までに英語版を続きに入れました。

 Conflict has existed since the beginning of human relationships – and all too often violence has been the response.  Mediation is an alternative approach to dispute resolution.  ADR (alternative dispute resolution) is a process where a third party—a trained mediator--helps others make informed decisions about issues rather than having a third party make those decisions for them. Mediation is grounded in the belief that conflict offers an opportunity to build stronger individuals, stronger relationships, and stronger communities. At the mediation table, disputants speak what they have in mind, and listen to others so that they find out what the problem is, what they want, how they want their future to be, and what they can do to reach mutually satisfying (win-win) solutions.  In this workshop I will explain the theory of mediation and offer role play opportunities.

E. O encountered the theory of mediation 3 years ago at the conference of Asia Pacific Mediation Forum held in Fuji, while she lived in NZ. She describes learning about it as feeling “struck by lightning”. She has been continuing learning about it, and last year started volunteering with a new group called “Grass-roots Mediation Association”.
